Child Sex Abuse Doesn’t Matter…Until…

A teenage girl I’ll refer to as S. was molested and raped while attending school. It happened in the dormatory frequently. What’s more, it was common knowledge that it happened to several other girls, too.

It wasn’t a faculty member who committed the crime. No, it was another student…another girl. She was a lesbian. Maybe she was bisexual. Fellow students suspected her of being involved with witchcraft.

And the faculty knew about it. Did they do anything to stop the ongoing child sex abuse?

It took years before the offender was expelled. It was so important to protect the school and its reputation after all. Besides, blind children wouldn’t behave that way, would they?

Yes they would. And they did.

I’m familiar with the situation, and it infuriates me to this day. It happened back in the mid 1970’s. In the years since, S. has sought professional counseling help.

No, this didn’t make the national news like the recent Penn State sex abuse scandal and the much deserved firing of legendary coach Joe Paterno. But it sure brings all of this back to mind.

Why? Because of the ongoing cover-up.

Look at how many years ago it started at Penn State. We’re only just now hearing about things that took place in the late 1990’s through 2002. And the man accused of sexually abusing little boys visited the Penn State campus as recently as a few days ago.

Now people are shocked. Yet how often does this sort of thing happen?

We feed on sick, sinful behavior pumped at us through music, on TV, the Internet, books, etc. We’re saturated in sex, and the envelope is constantly pushed further.

But pedophilia and other sex crimes don’t matter until they involve priests in the Catholic church, politicians, and sports figures.

Then people notice. Then there’s talk of character, leadership and morality.

But by then it’s too late.

19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
