Don’t Sign Up

American patriotism with its references to the homeland and national security provide cover for a multitude of sins. Yet most Christians are suckers when it comes to patriotism. They’ve likely never heard Samuel Johnson’s statement that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. It was in the 1700’s when he said that, and it’s just as true today.

Churches who want to clling to their 501(c)(3) status really get into patriotism. They don’t realize they’ve been duped. If they do, they’re being deceptive and not letting on. So what do you do when your church acts as a place of worship for the state? See what one dad thinks of the show of patriotism at his church recently. Check it out here.

So what does this have to do with not signing up? It’s the military I’m referring to. Do all you can to keep your children and granchildren out of it. I know that will get some of my readers stirred up. But believe me, this has nothing to do with pacifism.

We’ve been sold a bill of goods regarding the so-called war on terrorism. We’ve willingly believed in fairy tales in the name of patriotism. Going into the military isn’t the answer. Of course, that’s not going to stop those who think my comments are unAmerican. So before you or any of your children or grandchildren sign up for the military, read this and draw your own conclusions.
