God as Father?

June 19, 2011

It’s been said that we view God as we see our earthly father.Do you see God as a heavenly equivalent of your father?

Think about what that means.\

Our earthly fathers are human with limitations. God is neither human nor limited.

However, he did send Jesus Christ, His Son, in human form.

And in John 10:30, Jesus said I and my Father are one. The Jewish religious leaders thought He was blasphemous.

In Philippians 2:5-11, the Apostle Paul tells us Christ is equal with God, but didn’t take advantage of that. Instead, He was a servant.

Phil. 2:5-8–Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Think of this. God chose to send His Son, part of Himself, to be a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus died so we could be saved from eternal death and be reconciled to God.

What does that say about God as Father? Is your earthly father like that?

Jesus is no pushover. One dayh He’ll return as judge. We’ll all bow to Christ and proclaim Him as Lord because that’s what God wants.

Phil. 2:9-11–Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

If we see God in the image of our earthly fathers, we’re thinking too small. We limit God.

Whatever we might think of our earthly fathers, God is not like them. He is Creator and Father, like no other.
